Streaming Anime Company Crunchyroll Expands To ... - internet TV

Anime fans in Brazil will be happy to learn that Crunchyroll, the premiere video streaming service for Japanese anime will begin offering viewers access to its service in the South American country starting on November 1st. The San Francisco based company provides nearly 80 percent of the Anime shows currently airing in Japan and provides users with location based subtitles to further enjoy the popular shows.

Crunchyroll isn?t the only company currently trying to expand upon the popularity of Anime, as Netflix even has entered into the countries of South America?but has had dismal results. CEO of Crunchyroll Kun Gao believes his company has the competitive edge to stand-out during international expansions. ?We are going to see stronger growth than Netflix.?

In September the company announced that it has reached 100,000 paying subscribers for the niche-based video streaming service, and reports that it reaches nearly eight million viewers per month. A far stretch from the numbers that competing services like Netflix or Hulu get, but considering the niche content the company and analysts are thrilled with their success.

Even with the 100,000 subscribers, Crunchyroll?s bulk business is done via a freemium model, which they have successfully used to monetize their video streaming service. While paying customers do get perks like ad-free Anime episodes available the same day they air on Japanese TV, ad-supported episodes can be viewed one week on the web after airing on TV.

To use the service on a mobile, tablet, gaming device or desktop computer users must sign up for the $6.95 per month service. A free trial is available.
