Apple iTunes Added to Facebook Gifts

This holiday season, give the digital gift of iTunes to your Facebook friends.

The social network today announced that users can now send iTunes gifts and recommendations through Facebook Gifts.

Digital gifts ? essentially an online gift card ? are available for $10, $15, $25, or $50. Send a specific song or album you know your friend has been pining over, or just let them decide. Or, recommend an album, movie, game, or app available in the iTunes Store.

Apple's iTunes is the latest entertainment vendor to enable gift giving via Facebook gifts, following the likes of Hulu Plus, Pandora, and Rdio.

Launched in September, Facebook Gifts allows users to send real gifts via the Internet. Gift notifications can be posted to another user's Timeline, or sent privately.

Earlier this month, Facebook's Gifts page got a little heftier when new retail partners joined, including babyGap, Brookstone, Dean & Deluca, Lindt, Random House, and others. Wine options from Robert Mondavi Winery and Chandon will be available via Facebook Gifts soon.

In the spirit of giving, Facebook recently launched its charitable contributions feature, with partners including the American Red Cross, Blue Star Families, Boys & Girls Club of America, DonorsChoose.org, Girls Inc., Kiva, Livestrong, Oxfam America, RAINN, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, and Water.org.

Be careful not to get caught in a free-stuff scam, though. Con artists have apparently been using the social network to reel in users by advertising a free voucher or a free gift from a company.
