A year after it acquired India?s Intelenet Global Services for about $600 million, UK outsourcing services provider Serco Group is betting big on business process outsourcing. Christopher R Hyman, chief executive, in an interview with ET says the target is to get the BPO business to contribute at least 25% to overall revenues.
We believe for the first time we?ve created a business that can help companies in the front office, middle office and back office. We went after what was probably the biggest dream of all. Many people thought we wouldn?t have that kind of aspiration but I was happy to spend on Intelenet.
Given that BPO is a billion dollars today and we are looking to grow Serco internationally in the front, middle and back-office areas, I would be disappointed if BPO wasn?t around 25% of the group. The $6-billion frontline business has been built over the years and as BPO grows a little faster, it will slowly gain market share. Frontline services put us in a unique position to talk to the customer.
