SPOTLIGHT ON SAFETY AT WORK

Minister for Business Peter Chandler today launched Safe Work Australia Week 2012 at Ausfuel Gull headquarters in Berrimah.
?Our health and safety laws are in place to keep everyone safe at work, but there is also a requirement on each of us to work safely.? Mr. Chandler said.
?Last financial year there were 3,219 compensation claims to insurance companies for workplace injuries in the Territory.?
?Safe Work Australia Week will this year put the spotlight on individual responsibility. and push the theme Safety begins with ?S? but starts with ?YOU?.?
?I encourage all Territory workers and companies to make safety a priority so together we can reduce injury, disease and fatalities.? Mr. Chandler said.
?Ausfuel Gull is an outstanding example of a company which has maintained a strong emphasis on safety over a number of years.?
?50% of workplace claims in the Territory come from agriculture, road transport, manufacturing, construction, accommodation and food services, public administration and safety, and health care and social assistance.? Mr. Chandler said.
