Southern Methodist University's lead athletics program fundraiser, Tim Leonard, plans to leave the university to become athletic director of Towson University in Baltimore.
Leonard is expected to be introduced to the media and members of the Towson community at a news conference on Friday. He plans to start his role on Aug. 19, the university said.
SMU's athletic program doesn't expect a negative impact from Leonard's departure, spokesman Brad Sutton said.
"This is no different than any other transition in our office," Sutton told the Dallas Business Journal. "We will begin a national search for a qualified candidate. We have great support from a fundraising standpoint ... there are many people to fill the gap."
Leonard spent five years as senior associate athletic director for external affairs. In his role, he oversaw all fundraising, sales and revenue-generating efforts for the university, according to the Dallas Business Journal's sister publication the Baltimore Business Journal.
Sutton says he expects the university to move quickly in the search for a new lead athletics fundraiser.
