First Person: Worcester, Mass., Begins to Dig Out

Yahoo! News is gathering brief first-person accounts, photos and video from the severe winter weather in the northeastern United States. Here's one resident's story.

FIRST PERSON | WORCESTER, Mass. - Central Massachusetts has been hit and hit hard by the blizzard of 2013. With a statewide traffic ban is still in effect, road travel is non-existent. Starting early this morning the familiar sound of snow blowers and shovels could be heard. In many cases, front doors and garage doors had been literally snowed in during the evening and overnight hours.

The preparations for the clean-up have begun in almost all residential neighborhoods by the residents themselves. As we hear the halfway mark of the effects of the storm, many residents are trying to get a jump-start on their own personal snow removal. It is clear in this neighborhood that the road had not been plowed overnight. But almost every resident is out and trying to somewhat shovel out the best that they can at this point in the storm.

Thankfully, no power outages are reported in this direct vicinity of the city as of yet. This brings hope that the power and heat will remain on throughout the remainder of the storm.
